The heart of a plate heat exchanger is a pack of embossed plates with apertures. The plates are assembled at a 180° angle to each other, resulting in flow gaps on each side. Each plate is provided with a gasket which securely seals the flow gaps from the atmosphere and separates the two media used in the heat exchanger.
Connections are on the fixed plate, but can also be on the movable plate for multipass flow.

Funke heat transfer plates are always produced in 1.4401 / AISI 316 as this material is generally more corrosion - resistant and more resistant to chloride damage than 1.4301/AISI 304. Depending on the design, Titanium is also available in serial production.
All plate type heat exchangers look very similar at first glance. But the difference and the secret of efficient heat transfer cannot be seen from the outside it is the wave pattern. Its performance depends on many factors, including size and number of plates which determine the size of the plate heat exchangers and the operating costs. A crucial factor e.g. is that plates with different plate corrugation angles (in relation to the flow direction) can be combined. Obtuse corrugation angles result in longer thermal paths (H) and higher heat transfer rates but also lead to higher pressure drops. Acute corrugation (L) angles are chosen if the pressure drop must be kept low.
Thermally HRS Funke Plate Heat Exchangers have a secured a seal with a number of two-pronged clips that slide beneath the plate to hold the gasket. Each plate is pressed precisely to have specially embossed entry fields in heat transfer plates for optimum distribution of media. The gaskets have a special ribbed surface, enabling more exact centering and stabilization of the entire plate pack.Depending on the design and the type, adhesive or non-adhesive (clip-system) gasket made from following sealing materials are used:
Plate heat exchanger models available are from connection size 1" to 500 mm with a plate having the smallest heat transfer area of 0.05 m² up to per plate area of 3 m².
HRS Funke Plate Heat Exchangers offer more advantages by combining different plate configurations.
The FP series of Plate heat exchanger come with variants of plate corrugations. Depending on the desired process efficiency, a combination of plate size and plate corrugation pattern is selected while designing our plate heat exchangers. Obtuse or acute corrugation angled plates are selected to achieve higher heat transfer rates and lower pressure drops in the process.
These heat transfer plates provide maximum protection against the mixing of media used in the heat exchange process. Two simultaneously embossed plates are laser-welded at the port holes. If there is a leak, fluids can escape at the edges of the plate pair.
Compatibility of process fluids and equipment material is a critical area to get the right output from a process. For hygienic applications like dairy, juice, beverage processing, HRS Funke Plate heat exchangers are customized with SS cladded fixed and moving plates bolted together with heat transfer plates and gaskets. This is a well researched in house design specifically beneficial for food processing sector.
This cladded plate heat exchanger proves effective to ensure process safety and avoid contamination and other issues arising form material compatibility. Also, cladded Plate heat exchanger when designed to create multi-section units with partition plates helps to handle multiple media in a compact space, allow to create multiple loops for heating & cooling fluids without intermixing, thus enable recycling of energy used in the process.
Advantages
They find use in chemical, pharmaceutical, mechanical engineering, on and offshore sector, power, shipbuilding, compressors, piston and turbomachines, steel, surface treatment, automotive, paper and pulp, HVAC, extraction plants, HRS FUNKE PHE is used for heating and cooling of water, various type of oils, suspensions, infusion solutions, chemicals, acids etc.
In food and milk processing sector, a range of heating, cooling, pasteurization and heat recovery for milk and juices.
In key processes in these sectors, Plate heat exchangers are used for heating, cooling, chilling, pasteurisation, sterilisation, condensation, heating engineering (solar heating central heating, underfloor heating) and also as vaporiser/condenser in the refrigeration plant.
Technology
All plate type heat exchangers look very similar at first glance. But the difference and the secret of efficient heat transfer cannot be seen from the outside it is the wave pattern. Its performance depends on many factors, including size and number of plates. Altogether, these factors determine the size of the plate heat exchangers and the operating costs.

The powerful unit for top heat transfer rates in case of media with average viscosity and high viscosity. Design the TPL unit has special turbulators placed between the flow of gaps and by diagonal media flow together with large diameter connections very high heat exchangers rates are reached.
Heat transfer plates with V-corrugation for universal application in case of media with low velocity. GPL series has thermally optimized plate corrugation which produces highly turbulent flow even in case of low mass flow. GPLS series with double plates as the safety heat exchanger types is also available
